"The Malays seem to be torn between the desire to assert their own rights, to arrogate to themselves what they consider to be theirs, and the overwhelming desire to be polite, courteous, and thoughtful of the rights of the immigrants; no matter what they decided to do, Malays were becoming dispossessed in their own land."
